Good morning- I need a plant to grow up a new 8 foot, PVC, privacy fence to soften the white appearance. It’s a low light area with a number of deciduous trees and saplings. I’m told I should inquire about English Ivy. If possible, something that is not deciduous. The goal is to green up that side of the fence in keeping with a zoning variance condition. The fence will be approximately 100 feet. What do you recommend? How many plants, how far apart, etc? Thank you! Christine

Yes, for an evergreen, English Ivy will be your best bet. For quicker coverage, I’d plant a starter plant about every 2’-2.5’.  They might need a string to grab onto until they reach the top of the fence.
