Hi Peter,

I have a sick Maple tree. I took some pictures and the Master Gardeners through the Cornell program told me it might be Eutypuella Canker. I don’t think it can be cut out because it is affecting the trunk. Some branches in the center of the crown have lost their bark. There is black growth and ‘scaly’ bark on the affected parts of the tree. I think it might have been caused by improper trimming from the highway dept.

I do have unaffected maples nearby, but I’d prefer not to cut this tree down if I don’t have to. Do you carry a fungicide you’d recommend? Anything else I can do to save this tree and protect my others?

There’s no cure and, sadly, the best thing o do for the other trees is removed this one.
