Hello.  Is is too late in the season to plant evergreens?  Also, living in upstate NY, which evergreen is best for our growing zone – Emerald Green or Green Giants? and do I have to worry about deer eating the shrubs? Thank you!

You can plant either one.  Both are plenty hardy for this area.

The big difference is the size.

Green Giants (50–60′ and a spread of 12–20′ at maturity.) will get MUCH larger than Emerald Green ( a height of 10–15′ and a spread of 3–4′ at maturity).

Deer will be rough on Emerald Greens but they rarely bother Green Giants.
