I am new flower gardener and am attempting starting flowers from seed this season. What are the pros and cons of using the standard cell tray with soil compared to the Jiffy plant starters (the “dirt wafers” that you can transplant into the garden)? Thanks!

I find that the cell trays make it easier to control the moisture consistency than the Jiffy pellets.

It is also easier to get the seed at the correct depth in the soil.

Also, pay attention to how early ahead of time you need to start the seeds.

It is tempting to start the seeds as early as possible so they will be bigger when they go out.  This mistake will result if leggy, floppy transplants that will struggle to adapt.  Also you’ll want to invest in lights, timers and shelves for seed starting.  Window light is never enough.  Here’s a link to a blog post that addresses seed scheduling:  https://blog.timesunion.com/gardening/seed-starting-schedule/7423/
