I have window boxes in my front windows and would like to decorate for the holidays but would like to use fresh bird friendly plants with berries the birds can eat as opposed to fake greens etc. that can harm them. What do you suggest? Like would holly plants or winterberry plants work or must they be planted in the ground? Thanks so much!

Window boxes will freeze and thaw repeatedly over winter so even hardy plants won’t survive.  Fresh trimmed holiday greens would be most appropriate including holly greens.  Perhaps a bird feeder nearby so the birds can get seed and perch on the window box greens to eat them.
