Peter – I have 30+ coleus plants with no room to over-winter them inside. I have room to start new plants from cuttings. I did this last winter. I had them in water and when the roots were 1-2″ in mid January I put them in 4″ pots. By mid February my Coleus plants were too big and out of control. Instead of 4″ pots, should I have put them in smaller containers like a plant starter tray with hexagon shape “pots”? Should I trim the coleus plants often? How much should I trim them?

Those plant starter trays seem like the Coleus plants would be quite crowded. I’ve been buying Coleus plants from a nursery that specializes in Coleus and the small 4″ pots I receive are loaded with roots and the tops are quite healthy looking.
