Tomatos, Mine always “split” at the top just before they are ready to be picked. Most large varieties. How do I stop it? Should I just pick when green and wait for the red?Fritz

This is usually due to inconsistent soil moisture. If the tomatoes are ripening when the soil is dry and then the soil becomes very wet, the tomatoes basically “over-inflate” with moisture and burst.  Keeping the soil consistently moist, especially while the tomatoes are ripening should prevent this.
