Bleeding hearts are usuall planted and an already started plant.  They need to be in a mostly shaded location…a little morning sun is OK but the hot afternoon sun is too much for them.  If you cut the spring flowers away after they finish, you may get another round of flowering a few weeks later.  They prefer moist but well-drained conditions.
