My yard has had grubs for a few years. I need to tear it up and maybe go with sod. I want to do it early since my back yard gets sun all day and we have had hot weather early lately. I would also like to apply grub control at same time.. since I am paranoid about the stuff with my dogs. This way it would be underneath the sod.. but I didn’t know if it could be applied real early in spring. And what type of product would I use ?
Also will be looking for a quote eventually.. I have 1200 sq ft yard
The short answer is “no”. The grubs are still too deep in the soil in April for any grub control to reach them.
If you are concerned about exposing your dogs to a chemical grub control, I’d suggest using Milky Spore. It is a disease that only kills Japanese Beetle Grubs. It needs to be applied twice a year in mid-May and early September for 3 years. It needs to be watered-in heavily with an inch of water immediatley after application. After that it kills the grubs as they hatch and renews itself so it continues to be effective for at least 20 years.
