i have a side hill on the north side of my house approximately 6’x 4’. It is overgrown with weeds what is a good ground cover to keep the weeds down

There is no ground cover that will choke out weeds, the weeds will nee to be killed before you plant a ground cover. Round-up or Kleen-Up will kill them. It is probably shady so pachysandra or periwinkle could be planted once the weeds are gone.
