Hello, I purchased a couple trees and shrubs on clearance at the end of the season and never got them in the ground. What’s the best plan to save them for spring? I can put them in my unfinished basement, in a barn that has no doors or just leave them next to my shed in the pots. What do you advise to give them the best chance of surviving for planting in the spring? (Flowering pear tree, weigela and couple little boxwoods) Thanks

As long as the ground isn’t frozen, the best thing to do would be to plant them.  If you’re not going to do that, you should find a place out of the wind on the east side of a structure and sink them into the ground to the top of the ball or pot to keep them from drying out.  HERE’S a blog post about the subject.
