I have a vine that I cant id .the leaves are about 10 inches across shaped like a heart. the seed pods are 4 to 5 in. in length and the dia. of a half dollar .The seeds in the pod are shaped like a heart. It has encased an apple tree and has reached a height of 20 ft. It does not have a woody stem, more of a squash type stem. I think it is an ornamental plant but I am mystified.During the winter it rots away with no leftover material in the tree.. thanks for any info.

It sounds like some kind of bindweed like this one: https://extension.umass.edu/landscape/weeds/polygonum-convolvulus

If you can send some pictures to   peterb@hewitts.com it would help with the ID.
