I just moved into a new home in zone 5 upstate NY and there is an odd shrub growing at the corner of the house. My boyfriend wants to remove it but I’d like to know what it is first so I can decide if I want to transplant it or not. It has bright green oval shaped leaves sprouting in pairs all along each stalk and between each set of leaves is a knobby cone that is bright green at the base tapering off to reddish pink. There are a bunch of stalks kind of like a forsythia and the stems are slightly reddish.

Pretty hard to guess just from your description. You can bring a stem into one of our garden centers or send  some good pictures to peterb@hewitts.com
