I recently bought a red sunset maple from Hewitts and where I wanted to plant it I discovered that it was all concrete underneath about a foot and a half of soil. Basically my whole backyard is concrete with about a foot of topsoil on top. I have shrubs growing that seem to be doing fine but I don’t know if the maple would be okay if I planted it. Could I add a whole bunch of soil so it is a good 3/4 feet of soil on top of the concrete and level it to plant the tree? Would that work? My other option is to plant it in an area that is 10ft away from the house. What do you suggest? Thank you very much.

It would be best to plant it where there is no concrete.  It should be at least 20′ or more from the house anyway so the roots won’t damage the foundation.
