Why Lime?

LIME is used to raise the pH level of soil if needed to enhance plant growth.

The pH of the soil affects plant growth in three important ways:

  1. It has a distinct effect on the availability of essential nutrients.  (See Chart Below).
  2. It has an effect on the survival of beneficial soil organisms.  The ideal pH range for them is 5.4 to 8.0.
  3. It has a direct effect on the root cells’ ability to absorb both nutrients and water.

Remember

A pH of 6.00 is 10 times as acid as a pH of 7.0 and a pH of 5.0 is 100 times as acid as a pH of 7.0.
